This post is sharing the general idea of the size of the rc helicopter kits. Currently available in the market, it defines as 3 main categories:
1. Micro: Rc helicopters models that perceived as "toys". I have seen these little machines that are doing awesome 3D stunts under the hands of a capable pilot. Generally they spin blades less than 200mm. Although coaxial rc helicopters (e.g. Syma Rc Helicopter) do fall into this category, there are many others that are as real as larget collective pitch rc helicopter.
2. Mini: Under this category, there are a mixture of coaxial and collective pitch rc helicopters. Generally, they spin blades of 325mm to 360mm. Align Trex and Compass are few of the popular picks. They do required dedicate knowledge to install the electronics and skills to fly them, This category is very popular for people who are just starting on the collective pitch rc helicopter.
3. Large: This large rc helicopter kit spin blades of 425mm to 710mm blades. In the recent, Align is offering Trex 800 that has blades that is longer than 710mm. This category do provides some serious fun in the rc helicopter flying. These are the helicopters that are often featured in the world class rc helicopter events. And of course, the budgets for this category would be larger than the other 2, and more fun too.

RC Helicopter Brands
There are quite a few main brands of rc helicopter kits. They are listed as follows:
1. Align

4. Goblin (everyone loves it)

8. and many more...
There are the popular brands that I am encountered during my search for rc helicopter brands. And of course, you can find other unique brands of helicopter in the banners of various rc helicopter forums.
There are a few reasons which I conclude when choosing one brand over another.
Quality
Rc helicopter is a vibration sensitive machine. Any slightly variance in the kit's quality can lead to unhappy ending to your flying day. Any slop that develop over time will required the part in concern to be replaced.
Parts replacement
As a new to the hobby, we are bound to damage some parts of the rc helicopter kit during assembly or maiden flight. Even to a good pilot, crashing and hard landing are part and parcel of the game. And all these often results in replacement of parts, and downtime to polish your flying skills. With abundance of parts, you will be able to repair the rc helicopter and out to flying again. If you choose unpopular brand, it would be a while before you could fly the helicopter, as time is required to order and ship the parts. However, this would not be the main reason to chose particular brand, it boiled to down individual preferences. And the fact that you will have more than one helicopters in your fleet.

What is the best RC Helicopter?
In our popular flying field, people with interest will come to me and ask me, "What is the best RC Helicopter?". This is not a straight forward answer, "Just get a combo kit from that company" kind of answer. I would usually request for more information before putting across an answer.
Where are you today? Are you starting from scratch? Are you looking at coaxial, fixed pitch or collective pitch helicopter? Are you looking forward to the day where you perform hard 3D smack like those in youtube? Or you are just want to do some kind of light 3D?
Soft 3D with Trex 700e Pro DFC
The best RC helicopter for you might not be the most expensive. If you are still polishing your flying skills, it might be better to get a mid budget combo kit, and abundant parts for repairs. If you are a accomplished pilot, it would make you more outstanding to fly a unique helicopter at the flying field.
Regardless of the rc helicopter kit that you have selected, it always paid a peace of mind to have good electronics (servos, esc, motor, battery etc) in your helicopter. If you are new to helicopter assembly, it always good to approach the flyers at the field for their opinion. Nevertheless, each of us who devoted to this hobby has came by this path, and they are always ready to help the people.

Gas Turbine RC Helicopter
After playing with electric and nitro rc helicopter for some time, some guys in our field begin to toy the idea of installing a rc turbine in the helicopter. Although not as popular as the electric counterparts, it does has it own market share and its own fun.
Except the engines, the gas turbine rc helicopter does display the similarities with the electric and nitro. In terms of size, gas turbine rc helicopters are in the region of 700/800 size in electrics. As for the power to weight, it is not as fantastic as electrics. And if you are to do 3D, you have to plan your routine well ahead and be good with collective management.
Having said that, there is a recent development by Gaui, and installed a Gas engine in their NX4. The video show remarkable and stunning 3D by their pilot. I have attached one of the video as follows:

With the improvement of gas turbine technology, it is closer to bring gas turbine into smaller helicopter sized kit. OS Engine also developed a gas turbine engine with onboard CDI for Trex 600N. In addition, there are a few website that selling the new frames to support these gas turbine engines.
Of course, in terms of assembly, it is a bit complicated as compared to electric, plus the tuning of the engine, it is going to be a while before you enjoy the gas turbine engine. However, once the gas turbine engine is tuned, and going smoothly, it going to put a grin on your face whenever you fly that gas turbine rc helicopter.

RC Helicopter with Airsoft Gun
While I was flying my Trex 600 Nitro at a big field near my house, a by-passer ask the usual questions of "How much is the helicopter?", "How high can it fly", etc. As I was tuning the engine, I wasn't focused on my answer to him. Until he commented on how cool is the smoke from nitro engine, and mentioned if an airsoft gun can be attached on the helicopter and become an assaulting helicopter that would seek out targets and destroy them kinda of mission, through the comfort 2.4G remote control transmitter.
Although this idea sound great, in my opinion it does look more cool with the shooting feature. However, it come at the price of additional weight to the helicopter, and the mounting of airsoft gun on the helicopter might not be stable.
In my search of rc helicopter with airsoft gun, I have chanced upon many youtube videos. A few of them showed the actual shooting of balls from the airsoft gun which triggered by additional channel from their transmitter.
